I’m finally done with Invisalign and I am so happy! I started the process last fall after being unhappy with my smile for years. I had traditional braces when I was a kid, but never really wore my retainer after, so let me be a cautionary tale to all kids out there. While that might not be a big deal for some people, my teeth definitely shifted back quite a bit over the years. I really didn’t want to go through the hassle and appearance of traditional braces all over again, so I decided to get with the 21st century and get Invisalign.
My top teeth weren’t too bad, but the two big front teeth were starting to encroach on each other, and were tilted diagonally as well. My main concern was with my front bottom teeth, as they were incredibly crooked and crowding each other. Thankfully my bite didn’t really change too much over the years, so that was not much of a concern for me.
I found the process to be quite easy, and much less time consuming than traditional braces, since once you scan your teeth and get your trays, you get multiple sets of trays to take home at a time, so you aren’t really going into the orthodontist that often. I remember as a kid going in all the time to get my braces checked and adjusted, but with Invisalign, I only went in a few times during the process, and only really because I needed some filing done with help with the crowding.
Wearing the trays for the recommened 22 hours a day wasn’t an issue for me, and I found them easy to get used to and keep up with. They would hurt for the first day or two of a new set as my teeth and jaw were getting moved, but once that went away they were comfortable. I did get a bit of a lisp initially though, but that faded as I got used to them. My only issue I encountered with them was during my first trimester of pregnancy, as I suffered from horrible morning sickness and was constantly throwing up. During the worst of my morning sickness, I was not able to wear them for the time recommended, but thankfully that didn’t set my back in my process. Dealing with morning sickness while trying to take out dental trays was not something I anticipated when I decided to get pregnant! Lesson learned…
I am happy with the results of my Invisalign process, and highly recommend them over traditional braces to anyone looking to correct their teeth as an adult. I know they aren’t an option for everyone, but if they are for you then I think that it’s the way to go. I will have to wear retainers at night from here on out, but thankfully I learned my lesson and will not “lose” them this go around.
Month to month process below…
The end result. Much straighter, less crowded, less crooked, and a much more confident me.
