I swear I had reasons for purchasing this foundation other than the cute packaging. The aesthetics get me every time… But in all seriousness, who else hates the feeling of makeup on their skin? And in summer? Yuck. The Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Water Foundation appealed to me because it is a water based, lightweight, SPF 15 foundation. I love it so far, but let’s break it down.
Packaging: cute as hell, but I hate the pipette so far. The bottle opening is narrow, so it gunks up pretty easily when you pull the pipette in and out. The pipette itself does not really allow for as much product to be dispensed as a pump would. Proof that good looks aren’t everything. The fact that it’s glass doesn’t bother me, it seems quite durable so far.
Coverage/Finish: On the Sephora website, this claims to be a full coverage product. I would have to disagree with that, having used full coverage products in the past. I would say it builds to a medium coverage, and can be very sheer if applied with a damp beauty blender. I like the fact that it is more sheer, since during the day and especially in summer, I am really only looking for a more natural, light coverage. I would say it has a natural/satin finish, but everything looks “dewy” on me so who the hell knows.
Wear/Longevity: This product feels like nothing on the skin, which is awesome. I hate the feeling of makeup just sitting on my skin. I think that this wears pretty well throughout the day, but I made sure to use a primer and I set with a powder since I am so oily. It didn’t seem to break up though which was nice, and responded well to powder touch ups.
Shade Selection: I personally am the shade light medium beige and think it is a great match for me. There are twelve shades in all, but unfortunately I think this product is skewed towards lighter skin tones, so if you are very dark you may have a difficult time finding a match. If you are lighter, there are a decent number of shades with different undertones available.
Overall, I really like this product as a natural feeling and looking foundation. For me I like it as a day to day product. This foundation claims to deliver full coverage, which I would disagree with, so this is not something I would reach for a more glam night out. The packing is cute, but rather impractical and messy.
