I have always considered myself somewhat health conscious, and have tried to be aware of the items that I was putting both on my skin and in my body. Since getting pregnant, I have definitely become hyper-aware of my skincare routine, and the ingredients that make up the items I use. Because of that, I have been trying to find skincare items that are both natural and pregnancy safe, as well as effective and beneficial.

Tata Harper is a luxury skincare brand that focuses on fresh and natural ingredients, while still being effective. Their products are made completely free of synthetic and chemical ingredients. They also always appear highly reviewed where available, so I figured there had to be something to the brand.

The items from them are definitely on the pricy side, and this lotion was probably my biggest cosmetic luxury purchase of the year, and definitely of my pregnancy. I purchased the Rebuilding Moisturizer, which is a mattifying moisturizer for oily or combination skin. This lotion claims to be specially formulated for combination skin types, containing a blend of biocompatible hyaluronic acid and natural humectants that delivers optimal hydration with a matte finish. The formula exfoliates the skin to help decongest buildup and minimize the appearance of pores. It is formulated without parabens, sulfates, or phthalates, and in addition is 70 percent organic, free from toxins, fillers, artificial colors, artificial fragrances, all synthetic chemicals, and GMOs. Sounds right up my alley, especially for the health conscious or pregnant. I have been using this daily for about a month now, so continue reading below for my thoughts on this product.

Because of all of the wonderful claims from this brand, as well as the list of natural ingredients, I was so excited to try out this moisturizer. While I do not think that this product is horrible, I have to say I have been incredibly underwhelmed by it. For the price, you expect a truly exceptional skincare item, and so far I have been unimpressed with it. While the packaging is very luxurious, the product itself is simply mediocre.

I have combination/oily skin, that is much more oily in the summer months, so I thought this product would be a perfect everyday moisturizer for me. While it absorbs into the skin very well, I find it leaves my skin feeling greasy. This wouldn’t be a huge issue if I were looking for a heavier moisturizer, but I was expecting this to be a much lighter lotion for oilier skin types. In addition, this product also claims to leave a matte finish, which I found to be completely untrue. It left my skin looking very dewy and shiny, and never once did I feel that it mattified my skin.

This moisturizer also claims to exfoliate the skin to help decongest buildup and minimize the appearance of pores. Unfortunately I did not notice any exfoliation at all, nor any minimization of my pores. If anything it contributed to some new areas of congestion since it is a bit heavy on some waxier ingredients. I am also currently suffering from melasma due to all of the fun pregnancy hormones, and while I did not buy this to help with the hyper-pigmention, I want to note that it did nothing to even skin texture or pigment whatsoever.

Overall, I have been very unimpressed with this product, especially for the price. I can’t say I recommend it to anyone, and do not plan on repurchasing it. For your money, there are much better daily moisturizers out there, and if you are looking for a natural product geared towards combination skin, then I would check out the Melissa Day Cream from Dr. Hauschka.
